Pony of the Month - JULY 2010
Her name means: JEWEL OF THE SEA in gaelic. She is a 100% Eriskay filly born in April 2010. She lives on the Isle of Barra with her dam, Breagha.
Seud is a loving, gentle foal who is already halter trained and happily has her hooves cleaned and trimmed. She loves to gallop and play with her mother.
She is a joy to be with and so well behaved.

Pony of the Month - June 2010
Katie bought Milly from Maxine Harwood in Sussex 6 years ago and since then she's been a brilliant first pony.
Despite her very strong willed nature, Katie and her mum broke and schooled Milly themselves. Milly has repaid all their hard work by being a fantastic Pony Club pony as well as a bold hunter. The journey wasn't easy but completely worth it for the bond Milly and Katie have now.
Lastly, a big thank you from Katie to her mum because without her support, time and money Milly would not be the pony she is.

Mac is a 7 year old Eriskay gelding. He is affectionate and friendly, loves to work and take part in whatever is going on. His favourite activities are hacking out, being long reined out in the countryside, taking part in woring pony events in his Hebridean Creels and being groomed. He is also a real cheeky character. There is never a dull moment with Mac around!

Canna is a 100% mare who recently moved to the Isle of Barra from Wales. She recently won the cup at the South Uist Agricultural Show 2009 with her young rider.

Pony of the Month - July 2009
Auchenbrook Merlin is a 9 year old, 12.3hh pure Eriskay gelding with bags of personality, but blessed with a quiet and calm disposition. He has been a patient schoolmaster to my nervous daughter who, when we first got him, had lost her confidence to such a degree that she was afraid to even ask for a canter! Although inclined to be a tad lazy when allowed (or he can get away with it!) he loves his jumping and has taken his rider safely around many cross-country and show jumping courses, and competing successfully as part of the PC Novice Team. Scarlett and Merlin are very much a team together, and have formed a very strong bond: - they always come back with rosettes, perhaps earned more through stealth and steadiness than speed! They even managed a 3rd place in the Eriskay class at The Royal Highland Show this year. A very proud moment for both!
Merlin lives in rural Stirlingshire and loves hanging out in the field with his mates, seems to relish rolling in piles of poo in advance of any show and hates the consequent bath that is required. For this he is at his least patient! Each day he comes trotting up the field whinnying when he hears Scarlett’s call and, although he lives out all year, he does quite relish the odd night in his stable. We have had Merlin for two years now and he is actually pretty perfect in every way, and we love him to pieces.

Tallisker is a gelding, who was born on the Isle of Eriskay. He recently came over to the Isle of Barra for training.
Tallisker is about 11 years old and is still steel grey.

In gaelic, Breagha means beautiful. Breagha is definately beautiful and she is a 100% eriskay mare. She is currently in foal to Cathal, a 100% Eriskay stallion.

He is the personal favourite of all the Eriskay Ponies "FRIENDS OF THE ERISKAY PONY" have seen anywhere.
He lives with the herd on the Isle of Eriskay in the breeds native habitat. He has a lovely nature and his distinctive facial pattern makes him so magnificent.

PONY OF THE MONTH - MARCH 2009
Her name means traveller in Gaelic (Her native tongue). Siubhal has a fantastic floating trot and her canter is so comfortable that her owner can sit on her bareback without moving at all - like a galloping armchair ;)
She loves carrots and apples and is her owners best friend.
This photo shows their very first meeting on the Isle of Eriskay. Her owner sat down aside from the herd and Siubhal was the one who came to say hello ;) That was the decider !

Swift lives in England. He really cute! He is a 100% gelding and he has some Exmoor friends who graze with him in his nature reserve.

SOBHRAG Owner: J Brannigan
Sobhrag is a young mare. She was born on the Isle of Eriskay but is now on the Isle of Barra. Sobhrag is gaelic and means Primrose (a flower) in english. Sobhrag is a really sweet pony and just started going out with us on a leadrein. She loves travelling about with us on trails. She has had a child on her back and was as good as gold. Sometimes she will nibble the childrens jacket hoods and pull them towards her, as if saying "well get on will you, and I will give you a ride".

COINNEACH Owner: S McIntosh
Coinneach. He was born on the Isle of Barra and then went to live on the Isle of Skye for a while. He is now back on the Isle of Barra and loves being with his friends here. What a super pony. He loves people and is very willing to learn. He likes to give you a nudge if you aren't paying him enough attention. He is a really good looking pony and boxes like a dream. He is in training at the moment.

CATHAL Owner: CENE (Society Stallion)
Cathal is one of the CENE Society stallions. He was born on the Isle of Barra and is currently on the Isle of Barra. He is a distinguished gentleman and is the sweetest, most well mannered stallion that we have ever met. He is gentle and loving and is 20 years old.

REUL Owner: P MacLean
Reul is the Alpha mare of one of the three herds on the Isle of Eriskay. She is a friendly mare who is full of character. In this picture she lay down to relax and groom herself quietly on the hill. This was the very first time we had met the herd/s on the Isle of Eriskay Hill. Here they roam free, happy and healthy in a natural way. Each herd has a dominant or alpha mare and some herds are bigger than others. Reul's herd consisted of 3 other ponies, her daughter and two geldings.

SHADOW Owner: Isle of Barra Beach Hotel.
This is Shadow, an Eriskay Pony, "FRIENDS OF THE ERISKAY PONY" met in August 2008.
He belongs to the Isle of Barra Beach Hotel and is a super pony.
Shadow was born on the Isle of Eriskay and came to Barra in approx. 2007.
"FRIENDS OF THE ERISKAY PONY" have been lucky enough to have trained him and he is super responsive, very intelligent and so affectionate.
He actually gallops to meet us! Its a wonderful thundering greeting.
